Guidance is being drafted for Councils return to in-person meetings and will be sent prior to the August meeting. Ace Timmermeier offered to contact Volunteer State to try to schedule the Councils previous meeting time prior to Covid. Ms. Corker noted the CHA survey had been sent in and a request made for the Council to begin implementation in early 2022. She reminded members about the Regional Health Council virtual meeting scheduled for July 15 from 5:00 – 6:30 pm. Ryan Martin is the Robertson Regional Representative but has requested to be replaced after the July meeting. This request can be addressed at the August meeting.

  • Roll call was taken.
  • The June 9, 2021 minutes were approved with a motion from Jennifer Sanchez and a second from Johnny Norton with one correction. Rachel Ellis should have been listed as present instead of absent.
  • Ace Timmermeier introduced Co-Chair and UT Extension Consumer Science Agent to talk about (HIM) Health Information for Men as June is men’s health information month.  HIM was developed out of the UT Extension program out of Missouri. Men’s health is a public health concern due to a gap an information, shorter life span, and the tendency toward less doctors’ visits. The information was developed to encourage men to make healthier life choices. Middle age blue collar workers were used as a focus group to develop the program. The program encourages men to follow up on routine health services to improve medical outcomes, reduce financial expense and create better work performance. The program can be taught in a multi-session series or single stand-alone sessions. The programs are 30 minutes in length and address a list of 11topics geared toward men but relates to family health as well. It is a free program that can be offered in various sites or different types of men’s groups. It is a brand-new program and is available for the whole state and is easy to implement. It can be offered virtually or in person. Lauren can teach the class if someone is interested.
  • Coalition meetings were tabled until they could meet in person.
  • Members were given the opportunity to make announcement or share things going on in their world.
  •  Maria Smith reported she attended a conference with other churches to see what they were doing so they could better support the families they were serving. Their next meeting is Thursday 10th at 6:30 pm. They will be offering a training on Friday dealing with grief with the intention of educating everyone not just the clergy.
  • Ace Timmermeier reported the last time the Prevention Coalition met was one year ago when they did the Stashed Away Trailer sponsored by the National Guard. The trailer is scheduled again for August 6 at the First Friday night market. The exhibit is for 18 and older. Their next coalition meeting is scheduled Monday, June 21 at 6:00pm at the library. The coalition is working toward reducing and preventing substance abuse.
