Opening Remarks:

  • Welcome was extended. Next meeting date was announced as May 12, 2021 at 12:30 pm.
  • Roll call was taken.
  • The March 10, 2021 minutes were approved with a motion from Stephanie Evans and a second from Anne Marie Bryant.
  • Ace Timmermeier open the meeting by announcing the birth of Co-Chair Lauren Patterson’s new baby daughter and sharing pictures.
  • The application of Matt Driscoll with My Father’s House and Christian Counseling Ministries was presented for Counsel membership. For the benefit of members not acquainted with him he shared a brief background overview. Lynn Wood made a motion to approve with a second from Anne Marie Bryant.
  • You Have the Power Director, Megan Bodrie did a PowerPoint presentation on the program providing her background and work experience. Ms. Bodrie was a part of developing the Domestic Violence Curriculum. Ms. Bodrie provided the history, the mission, and the focus of the program that was founded by former First Lady Andrea Conte. Ms. Conte was former victim of a violent crime. After she went through the justice system, she felt marginalized and founded the You Have the Power program to provide advocacy and education for women who are victims of violent crimes. They offer resources, guidance, safety presentations, documentaries, and community connections. She showed examples of the resource guides provided and available and offered in many forms and languages. The documentaries are on many topics other than domestic violence. She showed a short clip of one of the documentaries. Other services include a 12- week curriculum for victim impact, a youth curriculum for schools and communities and domestic violence in the workplace. Staff serves on multi committees and organizations. They receive state and federal grant funding and private donations and grants and have 2 major fundraisers. She ended the presentation by discussing ways people could help support their organization. They do trainings all over the world, have 450 service providers and locally have assisted 50 victims.
  • The draft plan for the 20021-2023 Robertson County Health Council Strategic Plan was presented to the Council for adoption. The plan was sent out to members prior to today’s meeting for as a final review and reminder. Chair Ace Timmermeier asked for a motion to approve the 2021-2023 strategic plan. Annie Marie Bryant made the motion with a second from Stephanie Evans. The motion carried and Ms. Timmermeier stated the plan would be place on the Council’s website.
  • Stephanie Evans reminded everyone of the free mental health first aid trainings for those 18 and older. She also announced April was Counselor Awareness Month and Autism Spectrum Month.   
  • Matt Driscoll, with My Father’s House, reported the shelter would be closing at the end of the month. He stated they were still looking for a permanent facility, but they did not have the resources at this point. Epiphany Methodist Church will continue to maintain the cold weather shelter next winter.    
  • Maria Smith, with Interfaith Coalition, reminded everyone of the trainings scheduled around grief.  She reminded members there were several types of grief, loss of car, job, home as well as loved ones. The trainings offer supportive services and resources.
  • Candis Batey reminded everyone of the Narcan trainings at the Library once a month every third Wednesday.
  • Drug Take Back is April 24th at CVS Drug Store on Memorial Boulevard in Springfield.
  • A variety of other announcements for upcoming activities and community events were announced by individual members. Ace Timmermeier stated she would email a list of the events after today’s meeting and would post them on the website.
  • A motion to adjourn was made with a reminder of the next meeting scheduled for May 12, 2021 at 12:30 pm.
