New Business:
- Jackie Rawls presented a Council Spotlight on the Robertson County Cold Weather Shelter My Father’s House. She distributed a 6 page presentation of information with the mission, purpose, the date of when the shelter opens and closes, the criteria of 40 degrees and below, the hours of operation, what is offered and pick up and drop off locations. Needs are for volunteers, donations, blankets, gloves, hats, socks, meals, drivers, towels/ toiletries, host churches and organizations. The names of the churches hosting the shelter were also listed. Contact numbers for C.O.P.E, the Board Chair and My Father’s House Cell (615-992-1547 were provided.
- Lauren Patterson reported Healthier Robertson County is pursuing the Silver designation for healthier communities. They are also applying for a grant through this designation. This is the last round of funding for the Healthier Tennessee Communities initiative that ends in December. The current Healthier Robertson County program is Maintain, Don’t Gain Healthy Holiday Challenge. This is an online-based weight maintenance challenge for 7 weeks beginning November 24th. Six local participating fitness facilities are offering discounted or free fitness opportunities.
- Maria Smith from TAADAS reported on the Inter-Faith Coalition.
- In the absence of Chair Rachel MacFarlane, Co-Chair Rachel Goodman read the draft for the Robertson County Health Council Strategic Plan for 2019 – 2020. As she read over the 5-page document many edits were suggested with some deletions and change of language to better accommodate what the Council felt they could actually do to impact on each of the areas identified. The draft will be revisited on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
- Rachel Goodman reported that the NorthCrest Health Needs Assessment has been completed. The report is available on the NorthCrest website – About Us -> Community Health. It is completed every three years. A Committee was created to conduct the CHNA. Committee members were from agencies in the community. This year a survey was developed that asked what the community perceived to be the most important health issues affecting their family. A total of 550 surveys were received in both electronic and paper format.
The following 5 issues were selected:
- Preventative Care, Health Screenings and Annual Physical Examinations
- Women’s Healthcare
- Heart Disease
- Cancer
- Stroke
Mr. Randy Davis, NorthCrest President, and CEO, will attend the next Health Council meeting in December for the Member Spotlight to discuss the community needs that were identified during the NorthCrest CHNA.
- After some discussion, the Council elected to donate rain ponchos to give to Laundry Love, My Father’s House and police officers to distribute to the homeless. Maria Smith suggested this item as a practical need not only for the homeless but for those without transportation who have to walk to get to where they are going. She stated this would help individuals to keep themselves and their possessions dry. Rachel Goodman mentioned that durable ponchos (used more than once) can be purchased at Dollar General for $5:00. They come in a small pouch where the ponchos can be stored when not in use. Each member was encouraged to bring at least 1poncho to the December 12 meeting.
Adjournment
- The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 pm.
